Report: FBI Concealed Copies Of Key Docs In Russia Probe Out Of Fear Trump Would End It – TPM

The FBI reportedly stashed away crucial documents in its Russia-Trump campaign investigation, including FBI Director James Comey’s memos on his conversations with President Donald Trump, out of fear that Trump would shut down the probe.

According to CNN, the FBI took several steps to shield the documents under then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s leadership after Trump fired Comey in 2017.

McCabe reportedly had investigators stash Comey’s memos in the agency’s software system, SENTINEL, where they couldn’t be scrubbed in the event that Trump ousted McCabe too (which he eventually did).

Additionally, FBI agents hid at least three copies of the memos and other documents in “remote locations around the Bureau,” in CNN’s words.
